One of Barcelona\u2019s biggest draws is, without a doubt, its most world-famous architect: Antoni Gaud\u00ed.<\/strong> Born in Reus in 1852 and passing away in Barcelona in 1926, he was one of the most prolific artists of Catalan Modernisme<\/strong>. 2026 marks 100 years since his death, so there\u2019s no better time to explore his legacy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You may already know his most famous works, like the Sagrada Familia or Park G\u00fcell, but this genius actually left behind many more buildings and monuments around the city. Seven of his creations are UNESCO World Heritage Sites, and six of them are in Barcelona.<\/strong> Join us as we explore all of Gaud\u00ed\u2019s works in Barcelona, how to get to each one, and a few tips for making the most of them. CASA MIL\u00c0 (LA PEDRERA)<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Also known as La Pedrera<\/strong> (Catalan for \u201cthe quarry\u201d), it\u2019s one of the architect\u2019s most famous works and, in its day, one of his most controversial. Gaud\u00ed built it between 1906 and 1912 at Passeig de Gr\u00e0cia 92, in the area known as the Quadrat d\u2019Or, or Golden Square, and it was his last civil building. Today it\u2019s a UNESCO World Heritage Site.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Its star attraction is the rooftop, dotted with chimneys that look like warriors. The attic is also well worth exploring, with its 270 parabolic brick arches. That\u2019s where you\u2019ll find the only exhibition devoted entirely to Gaud\u00ed\u2019s life and work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition to the daytime visit, the Fundaci\u00f3 Catalunya La Pedrera offers a nighttime experience with a light show on the rooftop. New for 2026, it also runs the La Pedrera Sunset guided tour, designed to show how the building changes in the evening light<\/strong>. If you\u2019re staying at our beachfront apartments in Barcelona<\/a><\/strong>, take metro line L4 to Passeig de Gr\u00e0cia and walk a few minutes up the boulevard. You can also transfer to the L3 and ride to Diagonal (L3 and L5), which is the closest stop. CASA BATLL\u00d3<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

For many, it\u2019s Gaud\u00ed\u2019s most beautiful building and another must-see stop on this Barcelona route.<\/strong> Smaller in scale than La Pedrera, it\u2019s the other crown jewel of Passeig de Gr\u00e0cia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Between 1904 and 1906, Gaud\u00ed completely transformed an existing building and filled it with references to nature<\/strong>. It has bone-shaped windows, a staircase that evokes a spine, and a roof that resembles a dragon\u2019s scaly back. Beyond its colorful facade, the interior is well worth a visit thanks to its excellent state of preservation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Keep in mind that Casa Batll\u00f3 uses dynamic pricing: the earlier you book, the less you pay.<\/strong> Also, since 2025, the Dragon Rooftop is no longer included in the basic ticket, so double-check which option you\u2019re buying. It\u2019s open 365 days a year from 9:00 a.m., with nighttime visits during certain seasons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Visiting this building is a great idea if you\u2019re also going to Casa Mil\u00e0, since they\u2019re only about a 10-minute walk apart. The closest stop is Passeig de Gr\u00e0cia (L2, L3, and L4). From our apartments on the Rambla del Poblenou<\/a><\/strong>, the L4 will get you to Passeig de Gr\u00e0cia in about 15 minutes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

LA SAGRADA FAMILIA<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Without question, the architect\u2019s best-known work is the Sagrada Familia<\/strong>, and 2026 has been a historic year for it. On June 10, marking the centenary of Gaud\u00ed\u2019s death, Pope Leo XIV blessed and inaugurated the Tower of Jesus Christ, the tallest in the complex. Standing 172.5 meters tall, it makes the basilica the tallest church in the world. Even so, construction is still ongoing, and the Glory facade has yet to be finished.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s not just the details on the facades that impress: the interior will leave you speechless. Its branching columns transport you to a stone forest lit by colorful stained-glass windows. The museum, located beneath the basilica, will help you fully understand Gaud\u00ed\u2019s vision. You can also climb the towers of the Nativity or Passion facade, with their narrow spiral staircases and city views that will take your breath away.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To get there, take the metro to the Sagrada Fam\u00edlia stop (L2 and L5). From our apartments in Poblenou<\/a><\/strong>, the easiest option is to take the L4 to Verdaguer and then ride the L5 one stop. We recommend buying your ticket online in advance, as it often sells out. It\u2019s also worth renting the audio guide to uncover all the symbolism hidden throughout the basilica.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

PARK G\u00dcELL<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

High above Barcelona sits the city\u2019s most famous park and one of the architect\u2019s most magical works. Located on Carmel Hill, Park G\u00fcell was originally planned as a private housing development for wealthy families<\/strong>. The idea never took off, and in 1926 it opened as a public park.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Only two houses were ever built. Gaud\u00ed lived in one of them, designed by his collaborator Francesc Berenguer, and today it\u2019s the Gaud\u00ed House Museum. What has survived are the features that have made the park one of the most photographed spots in the city: the trencad\u00eds dragon on the main staircase, the Hypostyle Room, and the wavy bench on Nature Square<\/strong>. All of them have become symbols of Barcelona.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Entry to the Monumental Zone requires a ticket (\u20ac18 for adults in 2026) with an assigned time slot, so it\u2019s best to book online. The rest of the park, with its winding paths and pine groves, is still free to enter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you\u2019re taking the metro, get off at Lesseps or Vallcarca (L3) and get ready for an uphill walk of about 20 minutes. If you\u2019re staying in Poblenou, there\u2019s a very handy option: the L4 takes you straight to Alfons X, where you can catch the Bus G\u00fcell, a free shuttle for ticket holders. If you\u2019d rather take a regular bus, the 24 leaves from Pla\u00e7a de Catalunya and drops you off right by the park.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

TORRE BELLESGUARD O CASA FIGUERAS<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Designated a Site of Cultural Interest, this building at the foot of the Collserola hills is one of the lesser-known Gaud\u00ed houses in Barcelona<\/strong>. He built it between 1900 and 1909 on the site of King Martin the Humane\u2019s old castle. That\u2019s why its straight lines and medieval-fortress feel come as a surprise to anyone who only knows the Gaud\u00ed of Passeig de Gr\u00e0cia. It\u2019s been open to the public since 2013, and its highlights include the brick attic, colorful stained-glass windows, and sweeping views of the entire city.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Torre Bellesguard could easily be on our list of charming hidden gems in Barcelona<\/a>. To visit, take the Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat (FGC line L7) from Pla\u00e7a de Catalunya, get off at Avinguda Tibidabo, and hop on bus 196 or 123. You can choose between an audio-guided visit and a guided tour. It\u2019s open Tuesday through Sunday, from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

CASA VICENS<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

This summer house was a young Antoni Gaud\u00ed\u2019s first major commission<\/strong>, built between 1883 and 1885 for Manuel Vicens. Located in the Gr\u00e0cia neighborhood, it combines colorful tiles, plant motifs, and a strong Neo-Mud\u00e9jar flair, and it foreshadows many of the ideas the architect would go on to develop. It\u2019s been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2005 and a house museum since 2017, so today you can explore the interior and see how it all began.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To get there, take metro line L3 and get off at Fontana or Lesseps. The house is at Carrer de les Carolines 20, just a few minutes from either stop. It\u2019s open daily from 9:30 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. from April to October and until 6:00 p.m. from November to March. Late arrivals aren\u2019t admitted, so make sure you show up on time for your slot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

PALAU G\u00dcELL<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Another of Gaud\u00ed\u2019s works in Barcelona that often flies under the radar is this marvel of stone and wrought iron. It\u2019s located on Carrer Nou de la Rambla, right in the heart of El Raval. It was commissioned by businessman Eusebi G\u00fcell, who wanted the architect to build him a residence next to the family home, and it went up between 1886 and 1890.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s another of the architect\u2019s Arab-inspired creations<\/strong> and stands out, among other things, for its rooftop chimneys, designed as sculptures. If you want to learn more about his different styles, don\u2019t miss our article on Gaud\u00ed\u2019s inspiration<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s just a few steps from La Rambla, so it\u2019s easy to combine with a stroll through the city center. If you\u2019re coming by metro, get off at Liceu (L3, green line). From Poblenou, take the L4 to Passeig de Gr\u00e0cia and transfer to the L3. It\u2019s open Tuesday through Sunday and on public holidays. From April to October, hours are 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., with shorter hours from November to March. The audio guide is included with admission.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

THE TERESIANAS SCHOOL<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Antoni Gaud\u00ed completed this school and convent for the Congregation of Teresian Sisters in 1890, after taking over a project that was already underway. Drawing on Catalan Gothic, the architect kept the design austere to reflect the congregation\u2019s vow of poverty<\/strong> and worked mainly in brick. Even so, its corridors feature some of his signature touches, like parabolic arches and the pinnacle topped with a four-armed cross.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s still a private school today, so the interior isn\u2019t open to the public. If you\u2019d like to see its facade on Carrer de Ganduxer, take FGC line L6 from Pla\u00e7a de Catalunya and get off at La Bonanova.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

CASA CALVET<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

One of the most overlooked works in Barcelona is Casa Calvet (1898\u20131900), the architect\u2019s most understated and symmetrical building. Interestingly, it was the only one that earned him a city award<\/strong>: best building of the year in 1900. On the facade, look out for the carved mushrooms, a nod to the owner\u2019s passion for mycology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The apartments are private, but the ground floor is home to shops that preserve original features, so you can take a peek inside. You\u2019ll find it at Carrer de Casp 48, near the Urquinaona stop (L1 and L4).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

PLA\u00c7A REIAL LAMPPOSTS<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Now that we\u2019ve covered the most important houses and buildings, let\u2019s talk about the rest of Gaud\u00ed\u2019s works around the city. These six-armed wrought-iron lampposts were the city council\u2019s first commission for the young, newly graduated architect. Gaud\u00ed also designed a three-armed version, which stands in Pla de Palau, across from the former Civil Government building. Pla\u00e7a Reial is right next to La Rambla, near the Liceu stop (L3), so it\u2019s the perfect place to stop on a sunset stroll.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

FINCA G\u00dcELL PAVILLIONS<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Between 1884 and 1887, Eusebi G\u00fcell commissioned Gaud\u00ed to design the entrance pavilions and stables for his summer estate in Pedralbes. It was their first project together. The highlight is the spectacular wrought-iron gate, with a guardian dragon keeping watch over the entrance.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The interior is currently closed to the public, but you can get a great view of the dragon gate from the street at Avinguda de Pedralbes 7. To get there, take the L3 and get off at Palau Reial.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

FOUNTAIN OF H\u00c9RCULES (PALAU DE PEDRALBES)<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

On the same grounds where the G\u00fcell family had their estate, you\u2019ll find the Hercules Fountain, now part of the Palau de Pedralbes gardens. It\u2019s a minor work that remained hidden under overgrown vegetation until it was rediscovered in the 1980s<\/strong>. In the same gardens, you\u2019ll also spot a parabolic pergola attributed to the architect.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Just like the pavilions, you can get there by taking the L3 to Palau Reial. The gardens are open daily, though they occasionally close when the grounds host official events.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

PORTAL MIRALLES<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Gaud\u00ed built this entrance gate shortly after finishing Casa Calvet. It was commissioned by Hermenegild Miralles, a businessman who had worked with him on several projects, as the entrance to his estate. The result is an undulating wall decorated with trencad\u00eds<\/strong>, although Gaud\u00ed\u2019s contribution didn\u2019t go beyond the gateway itself. You\u2019ll find it at Passeig de Manuel Girona 55, near the Maria Cristina stop (L3).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

SANT PACI\u00c0 CHURCH MOSAIC<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Few people know that one of Gaud\u00ed\u2019s first jobs, back when he was still a student, was for this church in the Sant Andreu neighborhood. It\u2019s a classical-style mosaic,<\/strong> very different from his later work. Sadly, it\u2019s the only part of his contribution that survives, since everything else was lost during the Tragic Week of 1909. The church is at Carrer de les Monges 27, and the nearest metro stop is Sant Andreu (L1).<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

OTHER PLACES TO SEE GAUD\u00cd ART IN BARCELONA<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

If you\u2019re still hungry for more, Gaud\u00ed left other works in Catalonia<\/strong> just a short trip from the city. The most notable is the crypt at Colonia G\u00fcell,<\/strong> in Santa Coloma de Cervell\u00f3, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. You can also visit the warehouse of the Cooperativa Obrera Mataronense<\/strong> in Matar\u00f3 and the Bodegas G\u00fcell<\/strong> in Garraf (Sitges), attributed to Gaud\u00ed and his collaborator Francesc Berenguer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
